Man killed over petty issue

Ambala: A 30-year-old man was killed over a petty issue in Ambala City on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Vikas, a native of Bihar. He was living with his family at Ratangarh village, Ambala. The suspect has been identified as Sanjay of Aligarh. Savita Devi, deceased’s wife, said, “On Thursday night, we had gone to Sector 8, Ambala City, to attend the wedding of my sister’s daughter. Some boys, who had come with the marriage party, were continuously dancing. Around 10 pm, my husband went there and asked them to stop. Sanjay, groom’s friend, pushed Vikas and stabbed him in the chest.” Vikas was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was declared dead. Sanjay managed to flee the spot. The deceased, a labourer, is survived by his wife and three sons. Ambala City SHO Ajit Singh said, “Teams have been formed to nab the suspect and a case has been registered against Sanjay.” TNS

12 food samples collected 

Ambala: A team of the Food and Drug Administration collected 12 samples of food items in Ambala City on Friday. As per information, samples of apple juice, noodles, pasta, desi ghee, Nestle milk powder, monosodium glutamate, gram flour, banana, carrot, rice, kadhi pakoda, and samosa were collected and sent to a laboratory in Karnal for analysis. Food Safety Officer (FSO) Subhash Chander said, “Following orders of the Deputy Commissioner and the Food and Drug Administration, supermarkets, shops, kiosks and juice corners were raided.”  “The consumption of junk food is on the rise and it has been observed that monosodium glutamate is being used to make it tastier. Higher consumption of monosodium glutamate is harmful. Owners of fast food joints and people are being made aware of it,” he added. TNS

Theft at shop

Zirakpur: Thieves struck at a garment shop in Zirakpur on the Thursday night and decamped with Rs 10,000 in cash and clothes worth lakhs. According to sources, the incident came to light on Friday morning when a shopkeeper of a nearby shop came and found the locks of the garment shop broken. He immediately informed the owner of the garment shop, Uma Shankar, who approached the police. The police have collected the CCTV footage of the incident. OC
