Patiala, November 30

The District Education Officer (DEO) on Friday suspended the in-charge of a government model elementary school after a video of a nursery student having been locked in a classroom went viral.

A school teacher had locked the room without realising that a four-year-old boy of pre-primary class was still inside. The child was, reportedly, said to have been sleeping inside the class when the teacher locked the classroom.

When the kid did not return home, his mother contacted the teachers and reached the school. On reaching the school gate she, along with teachers, heard the voice of a crying child. Immediately, the school main gate was opened and the student was found locked inside a classroom.

Meanwhile, someone made the video of the whole incident and shared it on social media, which went viral. After confirming the veracity of the incident, Amarjeet Singh, DEO (primary), ordered the suspension of the head teacher and asked the respective Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO) to conduct a probe.

The BPEO has been asked to submit the report by next week.

DEO Amarjit Singh, said, “The school head teacher, Gurpreet Kaur, has been suspended. The action was taken after the incident came to our notice.”

School authorities claim that the class teacher accidentally locked the door without looking inside. The pre-primary classes get over at 12.30 pm, but the incident came to notice around 3:30 pm. The boy was said to have been ill and had taken the medicine that made him sleep.

A school teacher claimed that the incident came to notice when the mother of the child reached the school and inquired about her boy who had not reached home. — TNS
