A 15-year-old boy was washed away in a rivulet in Saketri on Monday. Though NDRF team has been engaged, his body couldn’t be traced till the filing of the report.

Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Saketri, had gone to pay obeisance at the Shiv Temple along with his sister about 9 am. His father Rajinder Kumar said after his sister left for home, he went along with four of his friends to take a bath in the rivulet which flows behind Sukhna Lake in Saketri.

He couldn’t control himself due to the strong currents of the water and reached towards the centre and got washed away. Suddenly, the volume of water increased. His friends rushed to his house to inform the family members after the incident.

As the news broke out, the police from Mansa Devi police station reached the spot. Station House Officer Inspector Karanveer Singh called the NDRF team for help.

NDRF Sub-Inspector Goverdhan Kumar said they checked the area up to 1 km from the spot where he had drowned, but the body couldn’t be traced. NDRF divers tried to trace the body for about 5-6 hours, but all in vain.

“Search operation continued till 8 pm. It will resume again on Tuesday,” said the SHO.

Ranjit was a student of Class 9 at a government school in Saketri. His father Rajinder is an auto-rickshaw driver.
