Chandigarh, December 10
The three-day bonanza of classical music and dance ‘Hemantotsav’, organised by the Pracheen Kala Kendra, concluded today with a scintillating spell of Bharatnatyam by renowned danseuse Vidushi Veena CS at the Tagore Theatre.
Opening up with an invocatory ‘Pushpanjali’, Veena moved on to present ‘Swara Guchha’, a pure Nritta item. She was at her best executing ‘ Abhinaya’ and concluded with a bhajan, ‘Bhaja Govinda’, based on ‘Raga Bihag’. Her recital was marked with nimble footwork, body gestures with resonance and sensitivity of mudras.
Earlier prominent sitar maestro Subrata De of Bishnupur Gharana mesmerised the audience with ‘Raga Hemant’ through an alaap, jod alaap and jod jhalla. He concluded with a captivating dhun set to raga ‘malika’. He was ably accompanied by Mehmood Khan on tabla.
Later, kendra registrar Dr Shobha Koser and secretary Sajal Koser honoured the artistes. — TNS
