Ban on bursting of firecrackers after 10 pm

District Magistrate Ajit Balaji Joshi has sought immediate action to put restrictions on bursting of firecrackers and sale of Chinese/imported crackers in the city during the forthcoming festive season.

It causes injury and noise pollution and also creates annoyance. There is a need to prevent the same by restricting them, he said.

Ajit Balaji Joshi also prohibited bursting of firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am and in the areas notified as silence zone by the Department of Environment, Chandigarh.

Bursting of firecrackers is also restricted in Sector 1 (Capitol Complex, including Rajendra Park and Chandigarh Club), Sector 12, Sector 14 (Panjab University), entire area around the lake up to 100 meters from the high water mark and the entire area North East of Uttar Marg, including Rock Garden and Lake Club.

Bursting of crackers has also been banned in 100 meters around hospitals, education institutions, courts and religious places.

Every manufacturer was instructed that details of its chemical contents should be mentioned on the box of each firecracker as per the requirement laid down by the Department of Explosive. This order will come into force from zero hours on September 26 and will remain in effect up to November 9.
