Chandigarh, July 27
Balwinder Singh, a local resident, has been elected as the president of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India for 2019-20. Biswarup Basu has been elected as the vice-president. The elections to the post of president and vice-president took place at the headquarters of the institute in Kolkata on July 22.
Balwinder is the first person from Chandigarh to be elected to the highest position at the national level since the establishment of the institute in 1944. The institute has completed 75 years of its establishment.
Balwinder has been actively associated with the institute in various capacities since 1998. He has been the chairman of the Chandigarh Chapter of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India during 2006-07. Since 2007 and onwards, he has held various positions at the national level, now elected as the president for 2019-20. He has also served as the chairman, Cost Accounting Standards Board, for 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2018-19.
He has also served as the chairman, Committee on Public Finance & Government Accounting for 2017-18, as chairman, Board of Training of Accounting Technicians for 2010-11, as chairman, Regional Councils & Chapters Co-ordination for 2009-10, as chairman, Members’ Facilities & Services Board during 2007-09. — TNS
