Ballot boxes in strong room amid tight security

Ballot boxes collected from 120 polling stations in the Dera Bassi block have been stored in a strong room at the Government College here amidst tight security. Counting of votes will be held on September 22 at the Government College here.

Paramjit Singh, SDM-cum-returning Officer, said all arrangements had been put in place to ensure proper security of the ballot boxes in the strong room at the college.

The Returning Officer said the seal of the strong room would be broken only on September 22 in the presence of election observers for the counting of votes, officials said.

Paramjit said after voting for the Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections ended in the Dera Bassi block, the presiding officers concerned immediately started the process of sealing the ballot boxes. The boxes were then brought to the strong room under tight security.

Besides, officials also visited the counting centre and took stock of the security arrangements for keeping the ballot boxes after the polling and conducting counting of votes on September 22.

In the Dera Bassi block, as many as 57,804 exercised their votes on the D-Day. Among those who cast their voted were 31,133 males and 26,671 females.

Kharar: The district administration has made all arrangements for the counting of votes of two blocks that fall under the Kharar subdivision. Kharar SDM-Cum-Returning Officer Vinod Bansal said all ballot boxes of the Kharar Panchayat Samiti had been kept at Government Polytechnic, Khuni Majra (Kharar), under tight security arrangements and counting of the votes would start on Saturday at 8 am. Similarly, counting of votes of Majri Panchayat Samiti would also start at 8 am on Saturday at a separate place in Government Polytechnic, Khuni Majra. He said all requisite arrangements had been ensured in this regard.
