A day after the UT police registered a case of theft after a six-month-old pit bull puppy, Mogambo, owned by a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), was stolen from outside the judicial officer’s house in Sector 19, the thieves left the dog back at the house.

Sources said the thieves dropped the puppy at the backyard of the house.

Inspector Dalip Rattan, SHO of the Sector 19 police station, said the puppy was dropped back around 10 am. The police were immediately informed. The police, including the SHO, visited the spot. The police once again looked for CCTV cameras installed near the magistrate’s house and on roads leading towards the house. The footage of a CCTV camera installed outside a temple close to the house was also scrutinised by the police.

The police said fear of getting caught must have led the accused to drop the puppy back. A vegetable vendor had reportedly seen two schoolboys stealing the puppy. The boys were riding an Activa scooter.
