On Mahashivaratri, a six-day-old baby girl was found abandoned outside a Shiva temple in Mullanpur here today.
According to police sources, people visiting the temple to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva in the morning noticed an abandoned newborn baby covered in a blanket outside the temple.
The police informed officials of the district administration after which the newborn was admitted to a primary health centre in Boothgarh for medical care.
The police informed District Child Welfare Committee officials, who reached the spot.
Navpreet Kaur, District Child Protection Officer, said, “The baby was found medically fit and handed over to a specialised adoption agency (Yadavindra Pooran Bal Niketan) in Patiala. The baby was named Avni after a goddess since she was found outside a temple.
