Auto driver killed, eight students hurt in mishap

KHARAR: An auto driver was killed and nine persons, including eight students of Chandigarh University, were injured in a road accident between the auto and a car near Pukki Roorkee village on the Kharar-Morinda road this afternoon.

An auto driver was killed and nine persons, including eight students of Chandigarh University, were injured in a road accident between the auto and a car near Pukki Roorkee village on the Kharar-Morinda road this afternoon.

The accident took place around 1 pm. The students were on their way from the university to Kharar when the auto and the car collided.

The driver of the auto, Jaswinder Singh, a resident of Gharuan, and the other injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, from where Jaswinder and a student, Swati, were referred to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh. Most of the injured were students of the Biotechnology Department of Chandigarh University and were returning home after attending their classes.

Gharuan SHO Kailash Bahadur said auto driver Jaswinder Singh died in the hospital. He said the police were looking into the matter.
