Auditor booked for breach of trust

An auditor has been booked for duping two companies to the tune of Rs 30 lakhs.

According to the police, the complainant, Gulsha Rawat, director, M/s Biophar Lifesciences Private Limited, having office at Elante Mall, Industrial Area Phase-I, alleged that Virender Sharma, a resident of Zirakpur, was appointed as an internal auditor of the company and he was delegated with all prepaid tax related and accountancy responsibilities.

It is alleged that for the past three years, the company paid Rs 23.95 lakh tax liabilities to him for further depositing it with the Income Tax authorities. The suspect took the money but did not forward it to the tax authorities, the complainant alleged.

In another complaint, Rahul Rawat, director, Medilente Pharma Pvt Ltd, alleged that Virender Sharma was appointed as an internal auditor of the company. During the past three years, the company paid Rs 6.43 lakh as tax liabilities to him for further depositing it with the Income Tax Department. However, he failed to deposit the money with the department.

Acting on the two complaints, separate cases under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Virender Sharma at the Industrial Area police station.

An investigation has been initiated into the case.
