Mohali, October 18

A local court has issued a production warrant against gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, lodged in the Jodhpur jail of Rajasthan, in connection with an assault case.

The court of additional civil judge Ruchi Swapan Sharma had framed charges against Lawrence Bishnoi and his two accomplices — Tarsem Singh, alias Saihbi, and Navpreet Singh, alias Nibber — on October 4.

The police had made elaborate security arrangements in view of the threat by a sharp shooter of Haryana on the social media, claiming that they would eliminate Bishnoi. However, Bishnoi, appeared before the court through video conferencing. The court has fixed October 31 as next date of hearing.

The three are accused of assaulting Satwinder Singh, a resident of Sector 69, in February 2011.

They have been booked under Section 336, 323, 324, 148, 149 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25-54 -59 of the Arms Act. However, three other accomplices — Jazzy and two unidentified persons — are still absconding.
