Army man among 2 killed in road mishap

KALKA: In a fatal accident, which took place on the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway near Chandi Kotla village on Tuesday, a recklessly driven truck claimed the lives of two persons, including an Army man.

In a fatal accident, which took place on the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway near Chandi Kotla village on Tuesday, a recklessly driven truck claimed the lives of two persons, including an Army man.

The accident took place at 10 am. According to information, the recklessly driven truck hit a motorcycle, which was on its way to Pinjore.

Birbal Khan, a resident of Jind and an Army man, and Kaka Khan, a resident of Hangoli village of Panchkula, died on the spot. Helmet of one of the victims was badly crushed in the mishap.

Ashutosh Rajan, former SDM of Kalka, who was on its way to Kali Mata Temple in Kalka, witnessed the accident and informed the police about it. After getting information, Deepak Kumar, SHO, Pinjore, rushed to the spot. The Chandi Mandir police reportedly reached the spot 2 hours late.

The truck driver who tried to flee the spot was chased and was later apprehended at Lohar Ghati near Rampur Seuri village.

According to information, their bodies kept lying on the highway for around two hours after the mishap. The bodies have been kept at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula.
