Chandigarh, November 3

Amritsar beat Chandigarh on the basis of first innings lead to win the Punjab Inter-District U-14 Cricket Tournament at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, here today.

Batting first, Amritsar scored 184 runs in 68 overs in their first innings, with Manroop Singh hitting an unbeaten 78. Sandeep Nishad contributed 42 runs to the total.

Suraj Patle was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts, claiming 4/76.

Chandigarh had a disastrous beginning to the chase, losing four wickets for just 22 runs. Sukhman Singh then put his head down and stretched the total past 100-run mark with a patient 197-ball inning. He was dismissed three runs short of a well deserved century as the hosts eventually folded up their innings on 161, conceding a vital 23-run lead to Amritsar.

The visitors, in their second innings, were 80/4 in 57 overs when the umpires decided to draw the stumps on the concluding day.

Punjab-A beat HPCA-A

Shivam Bhambri and Abhinav Sharma, meanwhile, cracked tons to help Punjab-A, defeated Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA)-A by seven wickets in a two-day match at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, Himachal rode on Ankit Kalsi’s 129-run knock to score 290 runs in 90 overs. In reply, Punjab reached home in 53.1 overs with opener Bhambri scoring an unbeaten 132. Abhinav Sharma cracked 131 off 116 balls, including 13 boundaries and seven sixes.
