Amit powers Tribune boys to title

CHANDIGARH:Amit scored a brace as Tribune Model School, Sector 29, registered a 3-1 win over St Xavier’s School, Sector 44, to claim the boys’ title on the concluding day of the 4th Tribune Trust Football Tournament here today.

Amit scored a brace as Tribune Model School, Sector 29, registered a 3-1 win over St Xavier’s School, Sector 44, to claim the boys’ title on the concluding day of the 4th Tribune Trust Football Tournament here today. 

Shah Zaman netted the remaining goal for the hosts Tribune Model School, while Kushan was the lone scorer for St Xavier’s School.

Ankur School, Sector 14, overcame St Joseph’s School, Sector 44, 2-1 to finish third. 

Tribune girls stumble

Tribune Model School girls, meanwhile, were left disappointed as they lost 1-2 to Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, on penalties after both the sides were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time.     

Ayushi scored for Tribune Model School, while Manika struck for Sacred Heart School.  

New Public School, Sector 18, beat Kids ‘R’ Kids School, Sector 42, 3-2 on penalties to claim the third position. The two sides were held 1-1 at the end of the regulation time, with Kritika kicking home for Kids ‘R’ Kids and Aditi finding the back of the net for New Public School.

Later, the winners were awarded by chief guest Prof Gurmeet Singh, chairperson, Physical Education Department, Panjab University, in presence of Tribune Model School chairperson Chand Nehru.

Amit, a Class VIII student of Tribune Model School, was adjudged the best player in the boys’ category. He scored five goals in the tournament.  

The trophy for the best player in the girls’ competition went to Ayushi, who is also a Class VIII student of Tribune Model School. Ayushi scored four goals in the tournament.

Prof Gurmeet Singh, in his address to the young footballers, encouraged them to pursue their dreams and also told them to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
