Mohali, June 8

While the process of sterilisation of dogs is yet to restart in the town, dog-bite cases continue to haunt residents.

According to staff at the Mohali Civil Hospital in Phase VI, 31 fresh cases of dog bite have already been reported in the first week of June. The hospital witnessed 186 dog-bite cases in May. The victims, who went to private hospitals, are not included in the figure.

Yesterday, at least six such cases were reported here among which a three-year-old boy, Rudravir Singh of Sector 71, also fell prey to a stray dog when he was playing in a park.

The victim’s mother, who was also with her son at the time of the incident, said that the dog bit her son on the nose in a spur of moment without any provocation.

“We are still in trauma”, said the horrified parents of Rudravir, who has been administered the anti-rabies injection, following the incident at a private hospital, here.

The parents of the child said they were making up their mind to sue the Mohali Municipal Corporation for the incident.

Sterilisation process to restart within 10 days

The process of sterilisation of dogs, which had come to halt more than a month ago, will restart within 10 days, claimed the local MC authorities. “We have signed an agreement with an Udgir-based NGO for the purpose. The renovation of operation theatre for dogs is on.

The sterilisation process will restart within 10 days”, claimed Rajesh Dhiman, MMC Commissioner. The MMC will pay Rs 1020 for sterilisation of a male dog and Rs 1050 for a female dog to the NGO. The NGO will also catch the dog, sterlise it and take the canine’s post-operative care.
