Ambala cops offer flowers to first-time traffic violators

In a novel initiative to name and shame traffic violators, the district police today observed zero tolerance day against violation of traffic rules.

Under the drive, the traffic police personnel laid special checkposts across the district, especially at busy intersections, to check traffic violations.

Ambala Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohit Handa, who led the drive, said first-time violators were named and shamed by presenting them flower petals after being stopped for violating the traffic rules. Habitual offenders were issued challans, while vehicles were impounded in cases of serious violations.

Sharing the idea behind the initiative, the SP said it aimed at educating the drivers about traffic rules and making them aware of the risks involved in violating them.

“Flower petals to the first-time violators, whose credentials are also noted down for records, are meant to make them feel that how precious is their life and a single violation can prove them fatal,” he said.

Handa disclosed that the district police would run this campaign on a weekly basis in future as well. In the process, they would tighten the noose around traffic violators in the district.
