Amateur folk dancers delight audience

CHANDIGARH: With a view to giving platform to amateur folk dance groups, the Tagore Theatre Society, under the aegis of the Department of Cultural Affairs, organised a one-day folk dance festival at Tagore Theatre here today.

With a view to giving platform to amateur folk dance groups, the Tagore Theatre Society, under the aegis of the Department of Cultural Affairs, organised a one-day folk dance festival at Tagore Theatre here today. The festival was held under the direction of Kuldip Sharma, director, Tagore Theatre.

Over 80 city-based young folk dancers, representing five groups, mesmerised the audience with their thrilling dance performances. The Punjabi folk dance academy, led by international folk artiste Balbir Singh, opened up with a ‘luddi’ before the Chandigarh Sports Association for differently-abled group presented Punjabi folk dance ‘dhola’.

The majestic performances of Maharashtra’s ‘gondal’ came from students of PGGC-42 under the direction of Dr Jaswinder Kaur. Similarly, girl students of the Drishti Theatre Club presented a scintillating ‘sammi’ led by dancer Anchal Kalia and director Gupreet Singh.

The show concluded with bhangra by the Theatre Arts Group, led by Rajiv Mehta.
