NSUI general secretary Nikhil Narmeta, who is also a third-year student of biotechnology at the Panjab University’s UIET Department, has submitted a memorandum regarding infrastructural facilities at the varsity to the DSW.

Talking about the issues faced by the students of the UIET Department, students demanded an increase in the number of hostel seats. “We have six branches in the department and there are many students here. We have requested the authorities to increase the number of seats to four for students of each branch of the department,” Nikhil said.

In the memorandum, the students have asked for installation of water filters on every floor of the hostel and a football, volleyball and cricket ground on the south campus of the varsity.

When contacted, DSW Emanuel Nahar said, “The students told me that mess workers have taken rooms in the hostel. As per my findings, two rooms have been given to mess workers in each hostel. We’ll try to vacate those rooms and in the coming session, we’ll allocate hostel rooms according to the strength of the department. So, the department with highest students will be given more seats in the hostel. We’re in the process of chalking out water filter facilities and are in talks with sports authorities regarding a cricket/volleyball ground too.”
