Age limit for GMCH-32 Director-Principal raised

CHANDIGARH: In a major relief for the senior most faculty of the Government Medical College and Hospital GMCH-32 the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has increased the age limit for the post of the Director Principal of the GMCH from 56 to 58 years.

In a major relief for the senior most faculty of the Government Medical College and Hospital GMCH-32 the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has increased the age limit for the post of the Director Principal of the GMCH from 56 to 58 years.

Earlier, the UPSC while approving the amended recruitment rules for the post had fixed the age limit to 56 years.

Many senior faculty members at the GMCH opposed fixing the age limit of 56 years and sent their representations for increasing the age limit for the post up to 59 years before the administration.

After considering their representation the administration had requested the UPSC to review its decision and recommended to increase age limit up to 59 for the appointment to open up the avenues for the senior most doctors of the college. Sources said now the administration will notify the recruitment rules for the post of the Director Principal and will issue the advertisement for the post soon.

Administration had put on hold the selection process for the new Director Principal in view of the its petition before the UPSC. The appointment of the regular director principal has been pending since Dr Atul Sachdeva completed his tenure as the director-cum-principal on April 23, 2017.

Dr AK Janmeja was given additional charge for this post. When Janmeja retired the administration has given the charge of director principal to Dr BS Chavan, the senior most doctor of the medical college.

Post pending since 2017

The appointment of a regular Director-Principal has been pending since Dr Atul Sachdeva completed his tenure as the Director-cum-Principal on April 23, 2017.
