Chandigarh, July 22

At 68, city resident Atam Tej Arora has cleared his masters in technology after already having three bachelor’s degrees in the same field. Arora retired as assistant general manager from a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Steel. However, he was passionate for studies and started pursuing more BTech degrees. He has a management diploma to his name as well.

Post retirement, Arora joined as professor in a private college of the region. He kept pursuing his studies and went on to clear his MTech in production engineering from Shaheed Udham Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Tangori, which is affiliated to IKG Punjab Technical University.

Arora says he has been a meritorious student since school and won scholarships in school and college. “My passion for studies is not confined to books and I like to make practical use of it,” says Arora. He has been maintaining his scooter and car himself. Rectification of overflow of tanks, cisterns and siphons is an easy job for him, he says.

Arora maintains and repairs household items such as electrical fittings, sewing machine and kitchen appliances. Arora believes that education that does not make one practically sound is not of much use.

Having two patents to his name, he can catch the grammar of assembly/design of items and has the instinct of going into the depth of technicalities. He has to his credit the rectification of a big size copier machine saving high maintenance costs. He is also good with computers and says technology keeps evolving and that he is trying to keep up with it.
