Adviser’s no to his repatriation plea

UT Adviser Manoj Kumar Parida has rejected the request of MC Commissioner KK Yadav to repatriate him to his parent state of Punjab. Soon after boycotting a meeting of the MC General House following a heated argument with a BJP councillor, Yadav met the Adviser at the UT Secretariat and apprised him of the reason for boycotting the meeting.

Sources said Yadav was so upset with the happenings in the House meeting that he requested the Adviser to send him back to his parent state, Punjab. Yadav reportedly told the Adviser that there was no point in working for the MC while being insulted in the House meeting for no fault of his.

The Adviser assured him of full support from the Administration and asked to work firmly without any fear. He suggested him to meet the Mayor to sort out issues. Yadav had joined the UT Administration on May 24, 2018, for a period of three years. Though more than half of his tenure is still remaining, he was not happy with the behaviour of some councillors, who have been targeting him in House meetings in the past. Yadav took over the charge of the civic body at a time when the financial condition of the civic body was bad. He took a number of tough decisions to improve the financial health of the corporation. He made it mandatory for all officers to get his approval before sanctioning any project or making any payment. Yadav’s decision to remove MC employees from residences of officers and councillors was also not liked by many. His latest decision to prune the list of road recarpeting works also did not go down well with some councillors. Yadav visited 40 roads, which were included in the list prepared by the Engineering Department for recarpeting at a cost of Rs 22 crore. He found 80 per cent of the roads in a good condition and approved only a few roads, which needed recarpeting. With this, the budget for recarpeting got reduced from Rs 22 crore to only Rs 6 crore.
