Despite tall claims by the local administration that Kalka and Pinjore would soon be made free from stray cattle, the problem remains the same.

KR Sharma, secretary of the Pinjore Zone of Panchkula Corporation, had given a statement through newspapers recently that stray animals would be caught and sent to gaushalas.

Devinder Singh, secretary, Kalka Zone of Panchkula Corporation, said a request letter was sent to the Commissioner, Panchkula Corporation, on June 20 this year to send a team to catch stray animals, but to no avail. Another request letter was also sent to the Commissioner on July 7 and the matter was also put forth at a meeting with the Commissioner on July 8. But, nothing happened to date.

KR Sharma, secretary, Pinjore Zone of Panchkula Corporation, had also told Chandigarh Tribune on July 7 that tenders in this regard were called and teams from Panchkula would soon come to catch stray animals, but the situation remains the same to date.

A number of incidents have taken place in Kalka and Pinjore in which several persons, including woman and children, sustained serious injuries.

Notably, stray bulls have claimed lives of two persons in Kalka and Pinjore. Stray bulls, cows near dumping station and near Noble High School, Pinjore, pose a threat to the lives of students, who pass through this dumping station. Parents of several students have complained to the authorities of the Pinjore zone office of the Panchkula Corporation several times, but the problem remained unheard.

Stray cattle can also be seen at Gandhi Chowk, Kasauli Road, Railway Road, Main Bazaar and Pinjor-Kalka highway area. They also lead to accidents and cause traffic jams, especially in the evening hours.
