Holding civic body officials responsible for the death of one-and-a-half-old Ayush, representatives of an NGO, Voice of Chandigarh, took the child’s family to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday. They demanded the registration of a case against officials concerned. A memorandum was also handed over to DC Ajit Balaji Joshi in this regard.

Avinash Sharma, president of the NGO, demanded compensation for parents of Auysh. “It was not an accident. The boy was brutally killed due to criminal negligence of the civic body staff. Besides taking action against the erring staff, parents of Ayush should be given relief as they have lost their son,” said Avinash.

Mamta, mother of Ayush, maintained that she would not bury her son till the time the authorities took taken action against those responsible for her child’s death.

Autopsy postponed

The authorities at the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16, constituted a three-member board of doctors for conducting a post-mortem of the dog-bite victim. However, the autopsy could not be conducted on Monday as Ayush’s parents refused to give consent for it. It has been postponed for Tuesday.

According to a doctor at the GMSH, Sector 16, the child had suffered a fatal injury on the neck. “The wound around the neck may have asphyxiated him,” said the doctor. In the meantime, social activist Avinash Sharma alleged that police were mounting pressure on the family to reach the GMSH-16 for the child’s autopsy.

“Cops want to wash their hands of the matter and pressuring parents for the autopsy. It will be done only after action is taken against erring civic body employees.
