Accused PU Senator still on the run

CHANDIGARH: Accused of sexual harassment by a Moga college principal, Panjab University Senator Harjodh Singh is still on the run. The complainant had recently approached the police and asked for addition of other sections against the accused, including that of kidnapping.

Accused of sexual harassment by a Moga college principal, Panjab University Senator Harjodh Singh is still on the run. The complainant had recently approached the police and asked for addition of other sections against the accused, including that of kidnapping.

The Senator was originally booked under Sections 354 (sexual harassment) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. He had previously applied for anticipatory bail which was rejected by the court.

The Chandigarh Police are currently conducting raids in various parts of Punjab to nab absconding Harjodh, Head of the Punjabi Department at Punjabi University, Patiala. Investigating Officer Eram Rizvi says, “The complainant did approach us with this request, but we will proceed according to our own investigation. We are regularly conducting raids to nab the accused.”

The complainant had alleged that Harjodh had asked for a lift and she had agreed. However, on the way Harjodh sexually harassed her. On the other hand, Harjodh had said he had been falsely implicated by the woman who had had a fallout with him on the way.

The accused had initially resigned from the post of Senator but later backed out of it. He had claimed that he was pressurised by the VC to do so when he and the complainant had met the VC on May 14.
