Ambala, September 20

Despite months of efforts and raids conducted by the police, Mohit Mental, who is the prime accused in three murders and an attempt to murder case, continues to be at large.

Mohit, a resident of Mahuwa Kheri village of Naraingarh, is the prime accused in the murders of Gurdeep Singh, Randhir Singh (who was the witness in the murder case of Gurdeep Singh), and Puran Chand (who was the witness in the murder case of Randhir Singh).

In order to instil confidence among villagers, a police post has been established at Mahuwa Kheri village.

Villagers said though a police post was set up at Mahuwa Kheri village and the PCRs keep patrolling the area, they would heave a sigh of relief only after the prime suspect, Mohit, was arrested.

It all started nearly six years ago in 2013 with the murder of Gurdeep Singh, which was the result of a dispute during a cricket tournament, villagers added.

Mohit and his four accomplices Rajwinder, Mohit, Dinkar, and Sumit had killed Gurdeep. They were convicted in 2016 on the testimony of Randhir Singh. Four convicts came out on bail in 2018. Mohit along with his accomplices conspired and then killed Randhir on May 13 last year. Puran Chand, who was the eyewitness in Randhir’s murder, was killed on July 2 this year.

Along with the three murders, Mohit is a suspect in an attempt to murder case too.

The district police have announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh to the informer for giving specific information about Mohit Mental. With the announcement of the cash prize, the total bounty had increased to Rs 1.50 lakh as a prize of Rs 50,000 was announced last year too.

The Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Jorwal said, “Mohit has been evading arrest for long. The police are on his lookout. Last year, a prize of Rs 50,000 was announced. Now, another prize of Rs 1 lakh has been announced. Recently, a police post has been established at Mahuwa Kheri village. It will help us in instilling confidence among villagers and also strengthen security.”

“Police PCRs keep patrolling at the village. Different police teams have been making efforts to apprehend Mohit,” the SP added.
