Chandigarh, December 13

The  Upstage Arts Group, New Delhi, staged a play, ‘Chicago Mein Swami’ during the National Theatre Festival, organised by the Sanskar Bharti  at Navrang Theatre, Bal Bhawan, here today.

The play presented  a glimpse of Swami  Vivekananda’s visit to Canada,  with a special focus on   his historic speech at the  Parliament of Religion as an Indian  delegate  at Chicago in September 1893. The play was directed by Rohit Tripathi.

The play narrated the journey of Swami Vivekananda,  portrayed by Amit Saxena, to Chicago. His interaction  at Boston  with John Henry Wright  (Amit Kumar),  a professor at Harvard University, on Hinduism influenced him and many more. But the memorable climax came when Swami Vivekananda influences the world  intellectuals and the general public in Chicago with his vision propounding secularism.

The director showed Ramakrishna Paramhamsa  as his divine guide. Besides accomplished  actors, a group of danseuses  performed well.
