A day after, another Punjab cricketers association emerges

A faction of the former Punjab cricketers today claimed to have formed a players’ association under the banner of Pun-Cricketers Welfare Association (PCWA). 

The announcement was made a day after a group of former players led by Bhupinder Singh Mundh had registered as Pun Cricket Players Association.  Mundh had been unanimously elected as the president of the Pun Cricket Players Association, while Rakesh Handa and Bharti Vij had been elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively.

The PCWA stated that the group was formulated on March 19 and its membership was spread across the state.

About 30 members are from Amritsar, 45 are from Patiala, 11 from Ludhiana and 35 are from Jalandhar, the PCWA stated. Out of these are five former international players, six are former India U-19 cricketers, 59 former first class players, including seven Punjab captains.  

An ad hoc committee had been constituted and soon the general body will be called and other actions would be taken, said PCWA convener Monish DP Azad.

Pun Cricket Players Association claims support of 98 members

The Pun Cricket Players Association has claimed that as on May 15 it had a total of 98 members — six former international, 58 former first class players and 34 former junior state players. On Monday, it had been inadvertently mentioned that the group has 66 members — three former international, 38 former first class cricketers and 25 former junior state players.
