Seven cases have been registered against traders under Section 188 of the IPC for selling crackers without licence in the city on Diwali during a checking carried out by teams formed by the Deputy Commissioners in the three sub-divisions.

While seven cases were registered against the traders selling crackers without licence in the area under the SDM (East), action was taken against eight traders in the area of the South and their crackers were seized.

The team under the supervision of Arjun Sharma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (East), carried the inspection in the east area where seven cases were registered against the traders.

The inspection has also been carried out under the supervision of the SDM South and the SDM Central. Saurabh Mishra, SDM (South), said checking were carried out in the area and around eight shopkeepers were found selling crackers without licence. He said their crackers were seized.

VIrat, SDM (Central), has refused to divulge any information and said an inspection report was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.

However, Deputy Commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi refused to comment on the issue, saying that he was on leave.

The Deputy Commissioner had formed the teams under SDMs to ensure proper implementation of the order issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for restricting the time of bursting crackers on Diwali.

On the   other hand, Rajiv  Gupta, Additional  Deputy Commissioner, said the reports  of  all SDMs were being  compiled  and would be presented  before the high court.
