Panchkula, October 17

To attract the city residents to its Dasehra function at the parade ground in Sector 5, Shri Krishan Lal Ram Leela Dramatic Club, Panchkula, has added one more effigy depicting drug menace taking the total number of effigies to six.

Earlier, two effigies depicting crime against women and unhygienic conditions were added to the traditional three effigies — Ravana, Meghnada and Kumbhakarna.

This year, another record will be set up as two Dasehra functions will be organised by two clubs for the first time in Panchkula. A total of five Dasehra festivals will be held at various locations in the country on October 19.

Shyam Lal Bansal, chairman of Shri Krishan Lal Ram Leela Dramatic Club, and Kusum Kumar Gupta, general secretary, said a decision to this effect was taken during the meeting of the club held recently. He said three additional effigies had been made to highlight issues such as crime against women, drug menace and unhygienic conditions in the city.

Bansal said effigies were prepared as per the Hindu traditions and no steel or other items, except bamboo sticks, were used in the preparation. He said the effigies would be erected on October 18.

Kusum said DGP BS Sandhu would be the chief guest, while Ambala MP Rattan Lal Kataria and MLA Gian Chand Gupta would be present on the occasion. — TNS
