5 students hurt as minivan overturns

CHANDIGARH:Five students of St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, received injuries after the minivan they were travelling in jumped the red light and hit a car before turning turtle at the Sector 51/52 light point here today.

Five students of St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, received injuries after the minivan they were travelling in jumped the red light and hit a car before turning turtle at the Sector 51/52 light point here today.

According to the police, the complainant, Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Patiala, reported that he was going towards Mohali on the road separating Sector 51 and 52 when a speeding minivan ferrying school students jumped the red light and rammed into his car.

The minivan overturned, leaving five students injured. 

Passersby rescued the students, who were taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32. The police said all students had received minor injuries and were discharged after treatment. A case against the driver, Hamesh (45), was registered The police impounded the minivan and arrested the driver, who was released on bail. — TNS
