Four construction companies from the country have applied for the Tribune flyover project. The Engineering Department got an overwhelming response to the tender floated for the second time around one month ago. The department opened technical bids of the tender today.

The construction firms that have applied for the project are SP Singla Construction Firm, Segal Builder, Ashoka Builder and DMR Construction.

The Engineering Department had to issue another tender for the construction of The Tribune flyover after the firms failed to qualify on the technical ground. The Administration cancelled the first tender after all four firms failed to meet the criteria fixed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway.

Though the Administration sought relaxation in the terms and conditions, the Ministry of Transport refused the demand for relaxations.

The Administration will now open financial bids of the project after evaluating the applications of the companies.

Sources said all companies were likely to qualify for financial bids as they had requisite experience in constructing flyovers across the country.

The project is already running late after its foundation stone was laid by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore on March 3, 2019. The construction cost of the project is expected to be Rs 158 crore. The flyover project will start near the GMCH roundabout and cover Tribune Chowk along Dakshin Marg. The construction of the flyover and the underpass will help ease traffic congestion at the busiest junction of the city having the highest concentration of vehicular traffic.
