3 Mohali residents killed as car crashes into truck

MOHALI:Four friends, three from Mohali district and one from Ropar district, died when their car collided with a truck on the Hisar-Kaithal highway near Kiorak village on Saturday night.

Four friends, three from Mohali district and one from Ropar district, died when their car collided with a truck on the Hisar-Kaithal highway near Kiorak village on Saturday night. The victims were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Safidon (Jind) in Haryana.

The deceased have been identified as Ram Singh (45), a resident of Majri, Rajinder Pal (38) and Surinder (46), both from Khizrabad, and Bhushan Singh (33) of Bardar village in Ropar district.

The accident took place around 1:40 am when their Alto car rammed into a truck as the latter’s driver applied the brakes all of a sudden, sources said. “The impact of the collision was so strong that two of the victims, who were sitting on the rear seat, were flung forward, smashing the windscreen of the car,” said the sources.

The front portion of the car was completely damaged in the accident, said the sources.

According to a relative of one of the victims, the four friends had gone to attend a marriage function of their acquaintance. “Before starting their return journey, they had called up their families to inform about their well-being. Today, only their bodies reached their homes,” said the kin. The bodies were cremated today.

According to the police, all four of them had died on the spot. As per the Haryana Police, the truck driver fled from the spot after the collision. A case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver.
