The CIA staff, Kharar, arrested three persons and recovered Rs 1.05 crore in old currency from them today.

According to a press note issued here, a police party, led by ASI Rajinder Singh, was checking vehicles near Shivalik City on the Kharar-Landran road when they stopped a car (HR 51 BH 1212) in which two persons were sitting. One of the accused, Ravinder, alias Ravi, a resident of Dhangarh village in Fatehabad district in Haryana, who was sitting on the rear seat of the car, had a briefcase in his hand. During the search, Rs 1.05 crore in old currency was recovered from the briefcase.

The police arrested Ravinder and his accomplice Kapil, a resident of Chhider village in Fatehabad district, who was travelling with him in the car.

A case under Sections 420 and 188 of the IPC has been registered against both accused at the City police station here.

According to the police, a third accused, Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Palera village in Jhajjar district, was also arrested in this case on the basis of information provided by the two accused.

According to the police, Ravinder, along with other accused, had tried to commit a robbery of about Rs 860 crore at a branch of Axis Bank at Ashok Nagar in Jaipur and a case was registered against them under Sections 342, 398 and 457 of the IPC at the Ashok Nagar police station on February 6. At least 12 people were involved in the robbery bid at the bank branch.

The police said after the recovery of the old currency, the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate were informed.
