As many as 26 persons were taken ill following an outbreak of diarrhoea at Gholumajra village here. Eight of them, who complained of vomiting and pain in the abdomen, were admitted to the Civil Hospital here.

After receiving information about the diarrhoea outbreak, the Health Department swung into action. Officials of the department started a survey at the village and examined patients suspected to be suffering from the ailment. A medical camp was also organised wherein people were provided necessary medication.

Health teams visited 100 houses in the village and distributed pamphlets on the causes of the disease and measures the residents should take to prevent its occurrence. Chlorine tablets were also distributed among the villagers.

Health officials said the outbreak could be probably due to the consumption of contaminated water.

Sangeeta Jain, SMO, Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, said while teams were carrying out a survey in the village, residents of the village had been advised to use boiled water. She added that the situation was under control in the area and there was no need to panic.
