The UT traffic police today issued 25 challans under its no-honking campaign on the hospital premises.

The police are issuing challans to motorists for honking inside the PGI campus, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, and Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16.

The police said while six challans were issued to motorists at the GMCH, 10 were issued at the GMSH and eight on the PGI campus.

The challaning drive for honking was initiated on December 5, when 19 challans were issued at the three hospitals. The next day, the police had challaned 33 motorists for the offence.

According to Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, any person who drives or causes or allows to be driven in any public place a motor vehicle, which violates the standards prescribed in relation to road safety, control of noise and air-pollution, shall be punishable for the first offence with a fine of Rs 1,000 and for the second or subsequent offences with a fine of Rs 2,000.
