In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman of Chhajubhat village was set on fire allegedly by her in-laws on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Rajni, who was rushed to the Civil Hospital Nabha from where doctors referred her to the PGIMER, Chandigarh, as she suffered over 80 per cent burns. 

Investigation Officer Mohan Singh said, “Victim’s father Ashok received a phone call from someone who told him that his daughter has been admitted at the Civil Hospital due to burn injuries.”

 Meanwhile, a video has also gone viral in which the victim is being transported in an ambulance and her attendants could be seen recording her statement.However the statement in the video cannot be verified. 

Ashok Kumar told the police that Rajni’s brother-in-law and his wife, mother-in-law and her husband Major Singh set her on fire. He said Major Singh had abandoned his daughter five months after the marriage but after the intervention of village panchayat Rajni started living with her in-laws again.

IO Mohan Singh said, “All the accused are on the run and we are waiting for the victim to record her statement before registering a case.”

He said a police team was sent to the PGIMER, Chandigarh, to record a statement of the victim but due to serious burn injuries she failed to record her statement.
