22-yr-old gangraped by auto driver, 2 others

Chandigarh, November 17 

A 22-year-old girl was reportedly gangraped by three persons, including an auto-rickshaw driver, at the forest area in Sector 53 here late on Friday evening.

Sources said the victim, a student who does a private job and lives as a paying guest (PG) in Mohali, had hired an auto-rickshaw for her residence from Sector 37 where she had gone to attend steno classes.  The accused other than the driver were sitting in the vehicle. 

The auto driver reportedly drove to the forest area of Sector 53 where the three accused committed the crime. They left the girl there and fled from the spot.

Sources said two persons, who were crossing by the spot, spotted the girl crying and informed the police. 

The police rushed to the spot and took the victim to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16. Sources said the victim was still in trauma. 

The matter is under investigation at the Sector 36 police station. 

The police said they would get the sketches of the accused made.

Sources said the victim’s mobile phone was not found at the spot. 

Soon after the incident, police teams started checking auto-rickshaws plying across the city.

Past incidents 

November 5: A 14-year-old girl, who had come to the city from Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh, along with her friend, was allegedly gangraped by her friend and three other youths.

December 13, 2016: A 21-year-old call centre employee was gangraped at knifepoint by the driver of an auto-rickshaw and his accomplice at a forest area in Sector 29. She had hired the auto from Sector 34 for Hallo Majra.
