2 killed, 2 hurt as car rams truck

Two youths were killed while two others sustained injuries when the Alto car they were travelling in rammed into a loaded truck near the Chhat traffic lights here today.

The deceased have been identified as Manpreet Singh and Satnam Singh, both residents of Sangrur district, while those injured are Ishpreet Singh and Gursevar Singh.

The police said the complainant, Gursevar Singh, a college student from Patiala, said he, along with his three friends, started for Chandigarh in their Alto car from Patiala around 5 am. When they reached near the Chhat traffic lights, the driver of a truck, bearing a Haryana registration number, suddenly applied brakes in front of them following which Manpreet Singh, who was behind the wheel, lost control over the Alto and it rammed into the truck.

The truck driver fled from the spot. All occupants of the car were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where doctors declared Manpreet Singh and Satnam Singh brought dead.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver at the Zirakpur police station.
