Mohali, December 17

The police arrested two persons today and booked two others in the incident in which a 35-year-old man died of a gunshot in a room of a hotel at Phase 11 here yesterday.

The police arrested Parveen Kumar and Amit, both staff members of Hotel Westcrown at Phase 11, where the victim, Sarabjit Singh, died after receiving a bullet injury.

The police also booked two more persons — hotel owner Balraj Singh Gill and Ludhiana-based Jodha, whose pistol was with the suspects at the time of the incident. Parveen Kumar is the manager of the hotel, while Amit worked as a housekeeper there. According to the police, both of them had washed the blood stains from the room in which the incident occurred.

The police have booked seven persons in the case so far. Jaskirat Singh, Ravinder Singh and Gurpiyar Singh are among the remaining suspects.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO of the Phase 11 police station, said the hotel owner had been booked as he did not inform the police about the incident. “The weapon belongs to Jodha and he was not supposed to give it to others,” said the SHO. Meanwhile, both Parveen Kumar and Amit were produced before a local court today, which remanded them in five-day police custody.

The police are yet to arrest the remaining suspects in the case. Investigations were on, said Inspector Gurpreet Singh.

Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Koomkalan village in Ludhiana, who had come to see a musical nite at Mohali on Saturday along with his friends, died after receiving a bullet injury on his shoulder. After seeing the show, the group had come to the hotel room, where the incident occurred. The victim was taken to the PGI, where he was declared dead by doctors.

After receiving information from the PGI, the Mohali police had booked the suspects under Sections 304, 336, 148, 149, 201 and 120 B of the IPC and under the Arms Act at the Phase 11 police station.
