Chandigarh, June 16

The police today claimed they had recovered two gold bangles and ruby stones from an employee of Reeva Jewellers in Sector 23, who was held for a theft at the shop.

The police said the suspect, Anil Vishavkarma (35), a resident of Rajpura, along with his accomplice Rajiv, had committed the theft at the shop. Rajiv, who is in possession of the remaining stolen jewellery, is at large.

The police checked the CCTV footage and found that three persons came to the shop in an auto and committed the theft at 5.30 am on June 14. The police traced the auto and after questioning its driver, it came to light that two persons had hired the auto from the Sector-22/23 light point for Zirakpur. They asked the driver to take them to the Sector 23 market and stopped in front of Reeva Jewellers. One of them went upstairs and came within a few minutes with a bag full of jewellery. The driver then dropped them at the Zirakpur light point. — TNS
