A Canada-based NGO, ‘Dristi Punjab’, gave away a cash award of Rs 50, 000 each to 19 bright students from the state during its eighth annual award function here on Sunday.

The winners included those who studied in government schools and faced financial and other problems and still bagged merit in the state in their matriculation examination (2017-18 session) conducted by the Punjab School Education Boa\rd (PSEB).

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh, environmentallist Balbir Singh Seechewal and senior BJP Leader Vineet Joshi and several NRIs attended the event.

The Vidhan Sabha speaker said there was no dearth of talent, but some failed to give wings to their dreams due to financial problems. In such a predicament, he said, ‘Drishti Punjab’ had been playing a pivotal role. He advised other NGOs to take a cue from the organisation and carry forward the message of promoting education.
