Chandigarh: As many as 151 units were donated during a blood donation camp organised by Canara Bank Officers’ Association in collaboration with PGI in Sector 34 on Thursday. According to the organisers, about 200 people came and 151 units of blood were donated. BK Mehta, president of the association from Karnal was also present on the occasion. Yugesh Kumar was the first donor and Jagjit Singh was the star donor who donated for the 96th time. TNS

3 held for robbing Burail resident

Chandigarh: Three persons have been arrested for robbing a resident of Burail of Rs 300 on August 15.  According to the police, the complainant, Shiv Yadav, alleged that Karan and Rajvunder Singh, both residents of Dhanas, and Dinesh, a resident of Burail, robbed him of cash in Sector 49.  A case was registered at the Sector 49 police station. The accused have been arrested. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. TNS

PGI to plant 500 saplings

Chandigarh: The PGI organised a tree plantation drive on the eve of Independence Day. Prof Dr Jagat Ram planted a neem tree and kicked off the campaign for planting 500 saplings on the campus during this monsoon season. Mixed species of trees will be planted as per the landscape requirement of the campus. Institute officials were present on the occasion and planted a sapling each. The function was organised by horticulture wing of the institute. TNS

Teen goes missing from Lalru

Lalru: A BA-I student of a government college, Prakash Kumar (18), is missing since Wednesday morning. Over 24 hours have passed, there is no information about the missing youth. The victim’s father, Parmod Kumar, a resident of Lalru Mandi, had approached the police, following which a missing complaint was registered here on Thursday. In his compliant, Parmod stated that his son had left home around 8.15 am on Wednesday and did not return. The police have registered a complaint. Investigation in the matter was under way, the police said. OC
