Chandigarh, October 13

Fifteen government schools in various sectors will be thrown open for parking during the evening hours from Saturday onwards here. The school premises will be available for parking after 3 pm till October 21.

Police officials said government schools in the sectors witnessing heavy rush during the festive season will be utilised for parking vehicles.

Government schools in Sectors 15, 18, 19, 22, 20, 35, 35, 37, 40, 41, 45 and 47 will be thrown open for parking vehicles.

The police officials said people residing nearby should prefer walking up to the markets in view of the anticipated rush due to the festive season.

“It is also advised that people should visit markets before or after peak hours to avoid rush on roads and also in the markets,” said a police official.

People should also focus on car pooling whenever it’s possible, said a traffic cop.

Police officials said vehicles parked in no-parking areas would be either towed away or clamped. Drive against wrong parking would continue till the festive season to ensure city residents don’t face any inconvenience due to wrongly parked vehicles on roads and no-parking areas.

Community centres to be thrown open for parking from Oct 15

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today decided to open all community centres for parking vehicles from October 15 till Diwali in view of the heavy rush in markets. There are a total of 42 community centres in the city. Orders have been issued to keep all of them opened. However, there is no awareness among the residents about the move. Officials are likely to put up signboards near the crowded areas to indicate parking at community centres. This step will help in managing the huge rush of vehicles, which leads to clogged roads due to wrong and roadside parking. Since parking lots have a little space to cater to vehicles, these premises will help in a big way. — TNS
