After a week-long treatment, the 13-year-old dog-bite victim, Amit, was discharged form the hospital on Friday.

Amit, a resident of Vikas Nagar in Daria village, was bitten by a dog twice last month. On June 4, Amit’s father Chandan Kumar noticed froth coming out of his son’s mouth.

Chandan rushed Amit to the PGI, Civil Hospital Mohali and Government Multi- Specialty Hospital in Sector 16, but government institutes declined to admit the child.

It was after The Tribune highlighted the matter that PGI Director Prof Jagat Ram offered free testament to Amit.

Amit was kept under the observation of team of doctors from the neurology, endocrinology and medicine department for a week.

“He was discharged on Friday as he was responding well to the treatment and did not suffer from any abnormal movement for the past 24 hours,” said one of the attending doctors.

Chandan said, “I am a humble daily wager. I did not have money for my son’s treatment. Fortunately, the PGI Director offered free treatment to my son.”
