124 candidates in fray for 35 CR posts

About 124 candidates are in the fray for 35 posts of class representatives (CR) in the students’ elections to be held at Government PG College, Sector 1, and Government PG College for Women, Sector 14, Panchkula. The election for the same will be held on October 17.

Dr Archana Mishra, Principal, Government PG College, Sector 1, Panchkula, said after the withdrawal and scrutiny of nominations filed by the students, a total of 73 candidates were in the fray for the posts of 18 class representatives (CR) while 16 candidates were elected unanimously. 

She said 28 students had filed nominations from the arts stream, 20 from the medical and non-medical stream of the BSc, 21 from the post-graduate courses and 20 from the commerce stream. 

She said the elected CRs would further elect four office-bearers, including president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary besides 5 executives. The college would also nominate five representatives to the students’ body. 

Similarly in Government PG College for Women, Sector 14, a total of 51 students were in the fray for 17 posts of CRs and 6 candidates have been elected unopposed. 

Giving details, Neerja Sarot, member of the College Election Committee, said 17 candidates filed nominations from the commerce stream, 18 from BSc medical and non-medical and 16 from the arts stream. 

It is pertinent to mention here that the NSUI, INSO and SFI students’ union had decided to boycott the elections in various colleges in the district as well as the state.
