12 hurt as bus, cement-laden truck collide

Twelve people were injured after a Himachal Roadways bus and a cement bag-laden truck collided on Airport Road late on Tuesday night. While no casualties were reported, the driver and a man sitting behind him received grievous injuries and are undergoing treatment.

The police are yet to ascertain how the accident took place, but suspect it to be a case of speeding and jumping the traffic lights as the accident took place at the light point separating the Industrial Area, Phase 8-B, the Industrial Area, Phase 7, and Sector 71. The bus was on its way from Manali to Delhi and the route was taken by the bus to enter Chandigarh avoiding Kharar, where work on constructing a flyover is on.

The injured driver has been identified as Roshan Lal of Bilaspur, who is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, Phase 6. The condition of the passenger sitting behind him is stated to be serious and he has been admitted to the GMSH, Sector 16.
