11 months on, no headway in teacher’s murder case

PANCHKULA: More than 11 months have passed but the Panchkula police are yet to make any headway in the murder case of a 39-year-old schoolteacher who was found murdered in her car at Bhander Ghati on the Chandimandir-Ramgarh road on the night of May 11 last year.

More than 11 months have passed but the Panchkula police are yet to make any headway in the murder case of a 39-year-old schoolteacher who was found murdered in her car at Bhander Ghati on the Chandimandir-Ramgarh road on the night of May 11 last year.

The family of the schoolteacher regularly enquires about the progress of the case from the Panchkula Police, but to no avail.

The Panchkula police had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to crack the case, besides, three investigating officers were changed, but the murder case of the teacher remained unsolved.

The police had recovered fingerprints from the spot, but it was not much of help as it had not matched with any of suspects who had joined the probe till date.

Reena, a resident of Dhakoli, whose husband Sandeep Kumar Pun is a former subedar, was stabbed 25 times. On the night of May 11, 2017, Reena and her younger son Punu had gone to the Sector 20 market in Panchkula. While Punu went to a shop, Reena waited in her car. When he returned, he found his mother missing. She was later found injured in an abandoned car. The police have scanned the CCTV footage of the Sector 20 burger shop from where she had gone missing, but to no avail.

Cops still questioning suspects 

A senior Panchkula police official said they were still questioning a number of suspects in this case. They had recently questioned two persons, including a resident of Bathinda, who were a close friend of the victim. There are some missing points which the police are trying to connect, he said.

Knife used in crime recovered

The team of the Panchkula police had recovered the knife that was used in the committing the crime from the victim’s car. The team had also recovered two bottles of liquor and as many cigarette stubs. A helmet was also found inside the victim’s car.
