11 booked for murder over pigeon racing

PATIALA:Following the death of a resident in Nabha, the Patiala police on Friday booked 11 people under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Following the death of a resident in Nabha, the Patiala police on Friday booked 11 people under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.The deceased has been identified as Billu Ram of Nabha, who succumbed to his injuries here, today.

Billu was assaulted five days ago in a fight between two rival groups. The police informed that the reason behind the murder was a brawl over pigeon racing. Cops said the attack was reportedly plotted by the accused who are also residents of Nabha.

The accused have been identified as Kaku, Sunny, Balwinder Singh, Birju, Surjan, Ganga and several unidentified people all residents of Nabha. The accused had allegedly hit Billu on his head with an iron rod. 

Billu was admitted to the Government Hospital Sector-32 in Chandigarh and returned home a day ago. However, he felt pain again today in his head and was admitted to the Government Hospital, Nabha, where he breathed his last. 

Nabha DSP Devinder Attri said, “We are investigating the case thoroughly. However, the accused involved in this case are yet to be arrested. We have also sought an advice from our senior officials about the legality of the pigeon racing in Punjab.”

Notably, pigeon flying is a regular affair in Nabha.
