Chandigarh, May 17

Nearly a decade after a “Self Financing Housing Scheme” was launched for the Chandigarh Administration employees, the Punjab and Haryana High Court was today told that 11.795 acres had been earmarked for the purpose.

The Bench was told that the Chandigarh Administration gave physical possession of 20.7 acres to the Chandigarh Housing Board on January 12. Out of it, 11.795 acres was meant for the UT employees housing scheme. The additional land was for general housing scheme, 2008.

The Bench was told that the Administration would make allotment to the housing board for the general housing scheme, 2008, for the UT employees as soon as sanction from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs was received, along with the rates.

The High Court had earlier observed in the open court that the allottees had paid corers, but not allotted land. As such, the Bench would not hesitate in getting an FIR registered and hauling up the officers concerned since 2008.

The Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sudip Ahluwalia had added it would also not hesitate in ordering time-bound construction of flats and imposing compensatory costs on the respondents, as the applicants could not apply elsewhere because of the terms and conditions.
